During a conversation concerning a new compilation called “Replugged in New Cross” Bill Cummings and Mark L ended up taking part in an informal tag team review of the entire album here are the results. Listen along here www.milehighmusic.co.uk and tell us what you make of our thoughts:
01. Jacknife Kid - Days
Bill says:
It reminds me of early Nirvana, a bit.
Mark says:
Sounds like a sort of Interpol gone punk.
Bill says:
Yeah
Mark says:
Although the chorus is bad , the verses I like, it starts sounding a little generic in the chorus bit Nickleback almost.
Bill says:
Yeah that's the problem with alot of this.
Mark says:
They win the best verse prize.
02. Shock Defeat! - Terrified
Mark:
It sounds, quite angular, arty sort of ramshackle and punky.
03. Alice Renouf - Rainbows
Mark says:
Yeah the third track doesn't fit so much.
Bill says:
Yeah its a bit like that, although some of its weird.
04. Ceri James - Mr Songwriter
Mark says:
Its such a mixed bag, track 4 truly is terrible.
Bill says:
Track 4 is by the guy who put it together, so respect to him for that, compilations are hard to get out there. But it sounds like a shit version of John Lennon solo.
Mark says:
Sounds like he's doing Mr Tamobourine man. Maybe he put himself on it because nobody else would.
5.Christy - About You
Bill says:
Christy? Julie Christy more like.
Mark says:
Track 5-shit Strokes
Bill says:
Yeah the vocal effect on his voice and the guitar line is so Strokes.
06. Honeycube - Song For Nell
Mark says:
Track 6 - American emo shitter
07. Plugs - Shallow Grave
Mark says:
Very Blur, its done well.
Bill says:
Plugs yeah, they are quite well known on the new cross scene, its one of the best things here, although the vocal is strange.
Mark says:
It's a good blur pastiche
08. The Sly Ones - Blue Freak
Mark says:
Average britrock shit
09. The Moon - Dead Eyes
Mark says:
Country and Western gone Nick Cave-intriguing
10. Chet - Higher Guarana
Mark says:
Haha Chet are on it. I got the demo for that track years ago, Chet sound like 1995.
Bill says:
There's a really camp disco song, somewhere its so off beam
Mark says:
I do like Chet though
Bill says:
Yeah Chet have potential
Mark says:
Even though they sound very sort of mid 90s bouncy pop like bennett.
11. Indigo Moss - Suicide Song (edit)
Mark says:
Its full of filler
Mark says:
It makes you want to commit suicide and its called suicide
12. Metro Riots - Thee Small Faces
Bill says:
12 sounds like a bad Jet cover.
13. Harold Cunliffe - Watch It All Go By
Mark says: 13- wants to be James Blunt
Bill says: Haha, he does!
Mark says: The opener is the best track so far
14. The Venus Kicks - Broken
Mark says:
The Venus Kicks sound ok, quite yearning
Bill says:
They are pretty good for a unsigned band, nice fellas too. I like the drums at the beginning.
Mark says:
Although the chorus is a bit of a letdown
Bill says:
Yeah, they remind me of early James I don't know why.
Mark says:
Yeah perhaps
Bill says:
The vocalist isn't similar, it's just that early 90s emotional indie thing.
15. Realtime Thrill - This Is My Time
Mark says:
Track 15 sounds a bit intriguing
Bill says:
Hmm, haha
Mark says:
The vocal is a bit weird

Mark says:
I think its more grunge
Bill says:
Yeah a bit
Bill says:
Not that good though
21. Sweet Machine - Sweet Young Thing
Bill says:
21 sounds like a poor man's Goldfrapp
Mark says:
Oh dear
Bill says:

Mark says:
Girls aloud
Bill says:
It's abit like
Mark says:
This isn't very good
Mark says:
Goldfrapp without the sex
Bill says:
Some shit 90s dance pop
Mark says:
Yeah it sounds like she's making the words up as she goes along.
22. Joe Wilkes - Spotlight
Bill says:

Bill says:
I like the guitars
Mark says:
Yeah, its nice actually
Bill says:
And his voice isn't bad in a husky way
Mark says:
Yeah although its a little Mondeo man
Bill says:
Its bit like Jon Marytn's "Solid Air"
Mark says:
