Cat Power - Jukebox

Cat Power bursts back onto the music scene with another covers album. This time she selects songs from legendary American singers and songwriters. She puts a new spin on songs from artists such as Frank Sinatra, Hank Williams, James Brown, Bob Dylan, Billie Holiday, and Janis Joplin. She also includes two original songs- a new version of 'Metal Heart,' featured on the Moon Pix album, and a brand new tune, 'Song to Bobby,' a homage to the great Bob Dylan. Though she intertwines her own compositions, the album is very cohesive.

She brings a more upbeat blues and jazz-infused sound, backed by The Dirty Delta Blues Band, than on previous albums. Unlike her first covers album, this packs a punch the other lacked.

Her recent musical accomplishments, such as being the first female artist to win the Shortlist Music Prize and being nominated in the Best International Female category at the annual Brit Awards, have skyrocketed Chan's career to great heights. She is on her way to joining the ranks of the great American legends she covers, though I don't know about you, but I'd like to see more Cat Power originals on the next album. For now, this covers album will do.
