Ian Gillan - Gillan's Inn

Absolutely one of the most ridiculous records ever. I could leave it at that, but I suppose I should say a few more things about Ian Gillan's return to the music scene; even if it is a complete waste of my time and yours. Basically you've got old Ian wheezing and rasping away with some of the most horrendous lyrics since, erm… forever (“Once I tried to eat myself alive/I wanted to know what I was like inside” from 'Day Late And A Dollar Short'), while various fret wankers such as Joe Satriani, Uli Jon Roth and Steve Morse widdle and wail over stodgy 70's rock riffs. Shamefully there's a dodgy, choir enhanced, cover of Deep Purple's (Gillan was once lead singer of said band if you didn't know) 'Smoke On The Water' and also shamefully the whole record is pitifully weak sounding in terms of production. The biggest shame of all however, is that people like me have actually had to listen to this nonsense.
