The Silent Committee - Regret

Approaching an artist like The Silent Committee who works in a very experimental, industrial sound it's hard to really quite grasp what a single can set out to achieve, aside from being an interesting taster of a larger work. Where this kind of music truly thrives is in grander, more complex efforts but here, on this single recorded for an unsigned music compilation, The Silent Committee have managed to make something beautiful and sparse that builds, carefully into an uplifting and spine-tingling number.

B-side Blue opens with the kind of atonal, aural assault of the city sound of Blade Runner, a dark mass of distant light, smoke and fire. Piano punctures the atmosphere, but never quashing the eerie soundscape. It's perfect mood music, but I'm not sure I'd like to be in the kind of mood that requires it, almost like the score to a David Lynch nightmare.

The Silent Committee excels at creating instant and provocative collages of sound that can conjure up all manner of imagery, or plunge you into a dark and mysterious world all of its own.
