Jumping Ships - The Bad Outweighs The Good

Brighton based indie quartet unveil melodic alt pop in the wake of the incoming new LP. It's clear why this band have quickly - having only been together for a year and a half - earned a variety of reasonably high profile plays and gigs.

Lead singer Michael Williams has a very strong vocal, balancing the melodic with a more traditional rock delivery well, but there is disappointingly little else here in this single to really grab the attention. Sure, it's well played, has a fine arrangment, good production values, but there's something all too familiar about the track's sound and a slight lack of a distinctive band personality outside of their talent for playing together.

I'm curious to hear what else Jumping Ships are capable of, as I find that often band's choices for a 'single' are occasionally misguided. One things for sure this band have a good eye for presentation, the single's artwork by Daniel Couper is very impressive and the 'sneak peek' at their debut LP Orientation quite tantilising. It's just a shame that the track itself fails to live up to the hype and the cover art.
