Phantom Theory - Shotguns and Sharks

Rating: 3/5

Oxford twosome Phantom Theory make a pleasing noise, opening with the insistency of Go With The Flow Queens of the Stone Age before wobbling into the slightly less impactful, melodic rock of Biffy Clyro and their like.

This track manages to do the big and loud, sing-a-long-a-anthem thing with skill, but is all so slight and once you've figured it out it doesn't really go anywhere or do anything. This renders the track somewhat forgotten once its over, and the B-side remix by fellow Oxford act Rise East Strike West just throws in some production tweaks that add nothing particularly new to the mix.

Pointing my lugholes at their MySpace yields stronger results with the likes of Ichiban having more of a lasting resonance, so perhaps this was just a bit of a lacklustre choice of single and better may be yet to come from this lively duo.
