Shakers in the Dark - Grandeur
Owain Paciuszko 09/08/2010
Rating: 2/5
Probably raised on a diet of Stone Roses, Stereo MCs and anything and everything Shaun Ryder has ever done, Shakers in the Dark probably wonder why The Music aren't the biggest band in the world. You can hear a swaggering cocktail of these potential influences on their single Grandeur, which has a jittery carnival of sounds all vying for attention against the slightly painful vocal of frontman Egg.
They can deliver a decent cacophony of potentially dancefloor friendly percussion and synthlines, but it's shunted aside by a somewhat invasive lead vocal that probably works fine in a live capacity but, on record, needs some of the music's production tricks in order to create a more listenable whole.
