Styles Make Fights - Rita & Betty

Rating: 3/5

Lead singer James sounds remarkably like The Coral's James Skelly, the rest of the song sounds like a rattling Arctic Monkeys-like number, with bittersweet lyrics; 'I don't smile, I'll dream about you another time.' The band formed in Newcastle in 2005 and have supported Ted Leo & The Pharmacists and The Automatic, and you can hear why those particular bands would be apt bed fellows on this single.

B-side Lost Weekends finds James trading in Skelly for Robbie Williams-like emoting, it gathers momentum slowly and nicely, turning into a pretty decent indie-pop tune with a disposably sing-a-long chorus.

There's nothing wrong with their music, there's just not much to really recommend it beyond a casual listen. Styles Make Fights, on the basis of these two songs, are an inoffensive band with indie-pop leanings and you're not going to regret turning your ears in their direction.
