HER NAME IS CALLA

God Is In The TV Zine presents Name Is Calla in Cardiff. The orchestral rock pioneers come back to Cardiff to launch new album 'The Quiet Lamb' . This show at Clwb Ifor Bach forms part of an extensive and no doubt dynamic tour of the UK.

Her Name Is Calla return this year with a new full-length album named 'The Quiet Lamb' on Denovali Records. The album sees the band fully immersed into their song writing, making clear steps forward from their highly acclaimed previous album 'The Heritage'.

Described by Drowned In Sound as "one of the UK's most forward thinking bands", Her Name Is Calla are known for their impressive live shows full of emotion, explosions of noise and passages of the quietest, most gentle harmonies. They've been compared to Radiohead, GSYBE!, I Like Trains, A Silver Mt. Zion, Codeine and Explosions in the Sky.

Based around as core unit of five members, the band wields a multitude of instruments, from drums and guitar to recorders and synthesis, from violin and trombone to vocals and harmonica. The resulting sound is dense but controlled.

'The Quiet Lamb' is the result of years of planning and one years recording and mixing. Stretched over the course of 75 minutes, the new album finds the band at their most passionate to date taking the listener through a journey of ten songs, each one a part of a whole.

"Her Name Is Calla are masters of the slow build, but their approach never seems formulaic as you are never quite sure exactly when the crash is going to come. Timeless and ageless." God Is In The TV Zine

MEILIR(full band show)

Meilir plays a special full band show in support of his forthcoming mini album 'Cellar Songs' set for release in September.

An honest&intimate musician, Meilir Tomos, now based in Cardiff, but originally form the hills of Flintshire in North Wales creates melody driven songs using experimental elements & unconventional instrumentation, from the African Karrimba to a box filled with gravel. Meilir's layered orchestration and innovative approach to song writing creates an individual style & sound engaging audiences with an exciting & unmissable live performance.

'Bydd Wych' the debut bi-lingual Ep by Meilir has recently been released to very enthusiastic responses & reviews. The record was crafted with the upmost care & attention and the result is a stunning collection of six beautifully crafted songs.

"Meilir is quickly grooming a back catalogue of timeless, evocative and richly alternative folk songs." Miniature Music Press

HAIL! THE PLANES

Hail! The Planes is a post-folk band from Cardiff. Things began in October 2007 when four friends got together and made a folky racket in a small room above an estate agents. The band is made up of Holly who plays violin and sings, David who plays guitar and sings, Mark who plays bass and sings and Robert who plays drums and doesn't sing.

They are influenced by instrumental bands like Do Make Say Think and Dirty Three, and also more vocally-oriented indie like Broken Social Scene and Low. We recently recorded in session on Bethan Elfyn's BBC Radio 1 Introducing show, the result of which you can listen to on our MySpace page.

Tracks from the "Tree Creeper" EP have also been played been played on Adam Walton's BBC Radio Wales show, and by John Kennedy on his Xfm X-posure show (on which we were a featured artist).

"I've been won over I hope you will be too, as they certainly are the most exciting band in Wales right now" - Bethan Elfyn

"Post-rock collides with folk in an intrepid romance. It's beautiful, smart and lyrical. Just plain super" - Miniature Music Press

THE MONROE TRANSFER

London based 7 piece instrumental band recently released new album Trials on Organ Grinder records to wide acclaim.

“At their most beautiful, The Monroe Transfer are able to lightly brush the places that so few other instrumental acts can.” - Drowned In Sound

“ an album of stunning beauty, easily the band's best work to date” - The Silent Ballet

“.. with Trials, The Monroe Transfer have shown great imagination in every aspect of their musical venture, whilst also playing up the truly great aspects of the effect that this kind of music can have on your soul” - Line of Best Fit
