Nicky Wire has contributed a song to a forthcoming collection, The Whirled Cup (download/limited August). It features some of the buzziest newer wave artists - The Betes Noires, Chet, The Darling Reds, Dexy, Dolium, Empty Vessels, The Fairies Band, Gear, Hey Gravity!, Innercity Pirates, Jonny Lives!, Korova, Lazyslave, Making Eyes At Elvis, Nebraska, The Needles, Seeing Scarlet, The Veez, White Man Kamikaze and William - at the "Share The Joy" price of a five pounds, so that people get to discover some great alternative bands. His life of wire anthem, 'Ritual No.1' - won't appear on 'I Killed The Zeitgeist', released this Autumn. Here's the info:

Soundtracks of once upon another time, from a cup brimming with a whirled mix of talent.

The Whirled Cup is the first Music Tourist Board compilation and features soundtracks from Rocklands, a virtual Republic of Rock that exists in South London on Planet Earth and worldwide, via Cyberspace - where there is no geography - on Planet Water.

Since it's conception by a gang of music fanatics (regulars at Pop Of The Tops club) less than three years ago, Music Tourist Board has spawned a family tree of 'playing class' people in and with bands creating a definitive music movement that mixes imagination with affordable access to technology.

The first "compilation" sent out was after the first meeting, a CDR invitation to check out bands like Art Brut, New Rhodes, Special Needs, Twisted Charm, Bloc Party, My Red Cell, Chris T-T and more at a month of events (Oct 003) at their meeting place, New Cross Paradise Bar.

The rest is still history in the making, this decade.

In the mean time, The Whirled Cup is a fresh invitation to check out newer wave tunes that are woven into the otherworldly story started on Planet Water's parallel dimension. It will be available as an affordable download (twenty great songs from a mix of known an unknown artists) and limited CD (further information and track listing to follow). The Whirled Club released on P.O.L.E. Club (POLECD001) this Summer.

That first month of events became the documentary and band profiles 'Rocklands - Live In New Cross' (004) by Digital Sneakers which was screened at The ICA, Curzon West End and the first Artful event in 005. An updated film, Rocklands 2, is being premiered at the South Bank's National Film Theatre on July 9th. Some of it was filmed at Artful, which takes place again October 1st to 31st this year. Mostly in London's rocking "Sarf by Sarf East".

The Whirled Cup is compiled by Music Tourist Board - a non umbrella organisation which includes all the bands that participate. It's aim: for Music to wage peace and planet by any fun and lovely means necessary. Inspirations include the every day people of Cuba, the Practise Random Kindness And Senseless Acts Of Beauty campaign of the 80s and a lovely man called Dickie The Beast (friend of MTB's Unemployable Welsh Scum DJs) passing round a can of beer, and saying, SHARE THE JOY.

KOROVA

Who are you, and what's the name of your band?

I am KiKiKorova, sent as international delegate for Korova

What inspires you musically? What inspires your Lyrics?

Musically - The ruins of desolateEast Lothianfishing towns andEdinburghcity centre bohemia. Dimly-lit bars and glittering nightclubs spread eagle-like across northern streets. Unabashed love for the frivolous decadence of great pop music. Grand soap operas of the heart that fit and start like the synapses of a re-born flatliner and remain no less life affirming.

Lyrically - Reckless dancing, failed romance, fur hats, childhood nightmares, the fearlessness of youth, the fear of the future, the love of the past...allbound together by the philosophical glue of Moran, Izzard and Hicks.

Why did you want to be part of the Whirled cup CD project?

Because Caffy asked us.

Which song of yours is on the album? Tell a little about it.

'Just Like Peter Cook'

"A driving anthem with a chorus so killer it shouldn't so much be issued with a government health warning as quarantined from the outset and isolated in a government laboratory in case of future outbreak"

-The Gaudie, "Just Like Peter Cook" single review

"...it's a beast: art rock guitars crash around the adrenaline fuelled vocals and driving bass lines...if they can continue to polish their raw sound they too will be as notorious as their subject matter."

- GIITTV 'Just Like Peter Cook' single Review

There you go love...uhuh!

How important do you feel compilations are in spreading the word about new bands?

Like Golden Fuck nuggets

Do you you think band support organisations like Music Tourist Board are important? (and if so, why)

Music Tourist Board is a Bastion of Hope in a Kingdom of Failure. Without them we would be going nowhere fast and tales of woe would ripple throughout the unsigned band community.

NOWHERE ELSE is there a community like it; where gig networking, making friends in shy places, and destroying the dancefloors of grimy greenwich to top tunes are the only pre-requisites for entry.

The World Cup. . .
If you were a footballer what position would you play?

I was good in goals once...well 5 a-side goals. At 5ft 5inches you're not going to be pulling any Van Der Saars are you??? Not that I want to pull Edwin Van Der Saar...well maybe...If I had a yellow pages book...or nine.

What's your favourite world cup memory?

Watching Scotland give Brazil a run for their money in France '98 was pretty good...err...obviously Argentina '78 was a good one but well before my time.

Which team are you supporting in the real world cup?

Argentina. By far the best team in this tournament so far, well deserving of it. I've always had a soft spot for Italy and Portugal though...so I'll be keeping an eye out on them too.

What is your latest news?

Korova, release their long-awaited debut single on Monday 10th July. "Just Like Peter Cook" and "Microwave Romance" will be released as a double A-side 7î single and is available for pre-order now from www.toughloverecords.com UK tour to follow in August. Details coming soon...For more info visit www.korovarock.com To hear the tunes visit www.myspace.com/thekorovastate

MAKING EYES AT ELVIS

Who are you, and what's the name of your band?
I'm Becky and the band is making eyes at Elvis.

What inspires you musically? What inspires your Lyrics?
Musically, anything the others and I have ever listened to I suppose + years of classical piano playing.

Why did you want to be part of the Whirled cup CD project?
kudos

Which song of yours is on the album? Tell a little about it.
Sea defences is about... staying safe around the sea. I suppose in a
deeper context it could be commenting on the interchanging weakness
and power of nature and how as people we don't really think about it
too much as it's relatively unimportant in our fun-filled lives. or some such thing...

How important do you feel compilations are in spreading the word about new bands?
It depends on how many people hear them, but as long as the music is
being heard then the word is being spread. so... very important

Do you you think band support organisations like Music Tourist Board are important? (and if so, why)

YES, certainly from our point of view as they allow bands from all
over the place (i.e. all the way out in the countryside) to get a foothold in another scene. goes back to spreading the word really.

The World Cup. . . If you were a footballer what position would you play?
up-front, goal hanger. goalkeepers are pretty huge, and I'm pretty small, so I'd hide behind one of them and noooo one would notice when
i happened to be offside and then.. GOAL! a flawless tactic.

What's your favourite world cup memory?
David's glasses. full-stop. I guess "England's victory against someoneorother" is expected, but I was never very good at patriotism...

Which team are you supporting in the real world cup?
England i suppose. if I didn't I think I'd actually get beaten down by the numerous flag bearers. they scare me.
