The Devil Wears Prada

Based on the Lauren Weisberger best-selling novel of the same title, The Devil Wears Prada offers two hours of light-hearted entertainment. The plot follows Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway) a young Northwestern graduate who has arrived in New York hoping to work as a journalist for The New Yorker. Instead of pursing a job in which she will be able to voice her opinions on some of the world's most urgent problems she unexpectedly falls into the position of personal assistant to the incalculably wicked, yet charming editor of the Vogue-like fashion magazine 'Runway.'

Although, at times, highly predictable and moralistic, The Devil Wears Prada does offer some humorous insights into the fickle nature of the fashion industry. Streep delivers a brilliant performance as the highly-strung Runway editor Miranda Preistly, at times dominating the film which fortunately compensates for the weaker aspects of the plot. Despite the occasional cringe-worthy moment the film is nevertheless an original take on an old formula and well worth viewing.
