The latest sci fi Stargate TV spin off: Stargate Universe launched last Tuesday the 6th October 8pm with a double bill. It continues every Tuesday on Sky 1 at 8pm. To celebrate we've been sent a video interview with the show's central character and legendary Trainspotting star Robert Carlyle. Watch it below.

Here's the synoposis from this week's latest Stargate Episode three:

Building on its promising premiere, Stargate Universe turns up the heat, quite literally, in its latest instalment.

The Destiny is breaking at the seams and so is the morale of the ragtag survivors onboard. With the air supply dwindling, a team disembarks to a desert-like planet to find a mineral needed to scrub the ship's air of carbon monoxide. And they only have 12 hours to complete the mission.

Their search is far from fruitful and, with the window of opportunity fast closing, they decide to split into two teams, one led by code-cracking teen Eli, the other by Matthew Scott. Together with Rush, the latter presses on to uncover the survival-hinging substance, but their cohorts have other ideas...

The scorching temperatures soon prove too much for an exhausted and increasingly irritable Rush, and Scott orders him to return to the Destiny and goes it alone. After an extraordinary encounter, details emerge about Scott's troubled past.

Meanwhile, via communication stones, a grieving Chloe has one last chance to see her mother.
