Kyla Bowen-la Grange

Duncan Robinson 08/03/2008

Fresh from the studios, folk rock singer/songer writer Kyla Bowen la-Grange hit the London scene for the first time with a set at the Bullet Bar in Camden, an upmarket bar with rich red décor and leather sofas at the back. The venue hosts a well stocked bar along with an interesting cocktail menu and unlike so many of these bars who are branching out into live music, the Bullet Bar has managed to get its sound system right.

Complete with backing band (including Cedar's Matt Churchill and Cynosure's Scott de Jongh) and singer, Kyla took the stage and held her own against a rather rowdy crowd from the previous band. Listing the likes of Cat Power, Radiohead and PJ Harvey as influences, Kyla produces songs with thoughtful and emotive lyrics, her voice floating them through elegant guitars and simple percussion. From the intoxicating 'Vampire Smile' to the catchy beats of 'One Two Three' Kyla has a unique and captivating sound, an artist well worth watching out for.

'Vampire Smile' and a selection of her other songs can be found at www.myspace.com/kylabowenlagrange and a CD is on the way. Kyla will be playing London dates at Westbourne Studios 25th March, The Slaughtered Lamb 31st March and 23rd April at the Cobden Club.
