Metronomy, Your Twenties

Paul Cook 26/05/2009

Opening the night and the only support band on offer were Your Twenties, a similarly poppy electro outfit to the headliners. Fun, light-hearted and at times very catchy the band were an enjoyable kick start to the evening, albeit a rather short 25 minute kickstart.

Metronomy celebrate their tenth anniversary this year, a formidable achievement considering their relatively unknown status until recently. Currently midway though their headline UK Tour the band are sounding in good shape before hitting several festivals over the summer including Glastonbury, T in the Park, Oxegen and recently announced Reading.

Metronomy now consist of originals Joseph Mount and Oscar Cash with new additions and former Lightspeed Champion drummer Anna Prior and bassist Gbenga Adelekan. The Devonshire four-piece have a long, hot summer ahead but look in fantastic form on the evidence of the evening's electric performance. Opening with the Night Out (Intro) and getting straight into On the Motorway the synthesisers and keyboards were in overdrive from the outset.

Album favourites Heartbreaker and Radio Ladio were received with ecstatic excitement by the half capacity crowd. My Heart Rate Rapid steadily built into its frenzied crescendo and by the end of the evening the crowd had been treated to every track from Nights Out and a few from Pip Paineā€¦ Catch the band in an intimate venue or festival tent whilst you still can.
