Live

Miike Snow, Ricky Warwick

Last year Miike Snow released their self-titled debut album, with great critical and moderate commercial success. Now, they are touring to showcase their live capabilities that evidently, are very much present. Despite being a three-piece, six take to the stage dressed in all black and white masks. Such is the complexity of their music's production that all six remain throughout, thoroughly conveying the sound of the album to its fullest extent.

The crowd is packed, it's a sellout and the broad scope of ages suggest they've featured on the Radio 2 playlist at some point. With only eleven released tracks their set is limited, but interspersed with improvised instrumentals. After opening with 'Cult Logic' then favourite 'Burial' the masks are removed to a cheer. Their loud and layered sound gets the crowd moving; as they roll through 'Black and Blue' and 'Horse Is Not A Home'. Only two tracks from the album are left out, but each song is played to perfection, with frontman Andrew Wyatt on top form vocally, and gracing both piano and guitar. Latest single and personal favourite 'Silvia' comes off brilliantly live mid-set, justifying its placement as one of my Songs of 2009. Penultimate track 'Animal' throws the crowd into dance frenzy before final track 'In Search Of' breaks into a wild instrumental that ends the set with the crowd wanting more, but we'll just have to eagerly wait for their second album.
