General Fiasco, tinylittlerobots

Hamish Gibson 12/10/2010

tinylittlerobots opened tonight with an energetic sound and equally energetic crowd presence. The Leuchars band proved their worth by playing songs full of nostalgic yet refreshing indie rock, proving exactly how the genre isn't as dead as everyone thinks. The highlight was sing-a-long anthem 'Turn Around', which is perhaps the best example of their conventional but incredibly fun blend of post new wave guitars, pleasing rhythms and perfectly matching vocals. Closing with 'Search Me', the young band deserved the packed out venue they played to, and easily earned such a strong response from the crowd.

Headliners General Fiasco then came on to a well warmed up crowd, playing songs from March's record 'Buildings'. The band stretched themselves to the limits of danceable and smile-making punk rock. 'I'm Not Made Of Eyes' and 'We Are The Foolish' went down a storm in the sold out Oran Mor, which gave the gig even more of a playful vibe.

The band's dancey side showed through 'Talk To My Friends' and encore/set closer 'Ever So Shy', there was still definitely a strong element of depth beneath the layers. 'Sinking Ships' and an acoustic version of perhaps the band's best song 'Something Sometime' gave the crowd the chance to relax but still enjoy the joyous sound immensely. Such melodies and talent are a hard thing to find in this brand of angsty indie pop, but the Belfasters managed it as well as any band can.
