The Rapture - Get Myself Into It
Thomas 04/09/2006
Rating: 2/5
Former NME favourites and zeitgeist surfers The Rapture had the advantage back in 2003 of actually being rather good, doing house music “their way” and spawning cowbell-bashing dancefloor fave 'House of Jealous Lovers' along the way. Even if they did join Radio 4 in stealing their tinny Telecaster twang straight from '79 era Gang of Four.
Now they return with a new sound, less raw than before and somewhat less exciting for it. This sounds like some half-forgotten mid-90's hit with Gregg Alexander from the New Radicals (remember them?) on vocals. Short strokes of guitar, a dollop of sax and a clipped, circular rhythm breed a catchy but repetitive chorus of “gotta get myself into it” that good ol' Radio is sure to love, but will leave those who remember their previous spiky racket feeling short-changed. Let's just hope this is the shallow end of their forthcoming new album, or The Rapture may find themselves quickly rendered irrelevant.
Out Now.
