Fall Out Boy - This Ain't A Scene, It's An Arms Race

Emoville is becoming increasingly fractured with various bands birthed within it's blackened womb doing their best to shrug off the emo tag, hanging heavy around their neck, some might say, not heavily enough. Mind you that's probably the group that would throw them off the end of the peer in concrete boots and happily watch as the last of the bubbles burst on the surface of the bay. With Panic! At The Disco heading in the direction of the local cabaret act and My Chemical Romance digging up the corpse of Freddy Mercury before f**king it up the arse. It's left to Fallout Boy to find their artistic about turn or risk being labeled dinosaurs.

'This Ain't A Scene, It's An Arms Race' is a drive by shooting done by the local hoodies sporting eye liner and lip piercings. Starting out slicker then crude oil the hip-hop style production of the verses and bridges find precision strike piano chords playing over a bass line that's been pumping iron down the local gym. Before the storm of guitar pop whips up to provide an juxtaposition against what came before and prove that Fallout Boy haven't betrayed their roots. Just don't look too carefully though or you might just see that two seem to be from separate songs gaffer tapped together.

It appears the term 'irony' has failed to crop up in the Fallout Boy dictionary of song writing. In moving away from the emo staple and chasing down the illusive means to evolve, they're steering dangerously close to becoming the band you never admit to liking, kind of emo really.
