Cute Is What We Aim For - Newport Living

Ouch, ouch, ouch. Painful opening whiney vocals ripping off Placebo are not the best way to start a song. It's fortunate that we people have patience otherwise the CD would have just been used to decorate the wall of shame here at GIITTV. As in “Shame someone really had to listen to this pile of crap”. Well Cute Is What We Aim For attempt to redeem themselves but just end up sounding like a slightly more acceptable and in depth version of Fallout Boy. Which isn't actually that hard come to think of it: shooting fish in a barrel using a bazooka springs to mind.

Newport Living develops into a song that manages to deal with drink, drugs and whoring your self around and all in the space of just over three and a half minutes. A speed read of what's wrong in the Cute Is What We Aim For groupie scene placed to the usual quite verse-loud chorus combo, although it does attempt to move away from monotony with a somewhat more harmonious acapella vocal outro. Still all the tricks in the world won't save Newport Living from sounding like an anemic 2005 rattling it's last breath.
