Leave The Capital - Matchsticks

Having recently won Steve Lamacq's 'Rebel Playlist' Leave The Capital follow up their coup with their debut single 'Matchsticks', released as part of the ORG-AN-ISED singles series. Yes, that's the same label that released Brian Jonestown Massacre's first single over in good ol' Blighty, though 'Matchsticks' is a million miles away Anton Newcombe's west coast smacked-out psychedelia. Leave The Capital enter into the realm of Dove's anthemic qualities mixed in with a good helping of Elbow's more subtle approach without the threat of sounding like they took a wrong turn and ended up in 2002.

Instead they take us into a dystopian future, where Ben James' plaintive vocals are those of a man who's soul tired of seeing the grime of daily life and wished for something better. Whilst neon tinted keyboards and the softest of chiming guitars are overlaid by Chris Collin's pearls of guitar licks sketching out the fine detail of the song. If they can keep producing songs of this crystalline beauty then they might just be there to brighten the day and lead is all out of the capital with them.
