Mark Ronson - Toxic

Sometimes, even the biggest gestures fall flat. It admittedly took quite a lot of guts for London-turned-NYC DJ to remix Britney Spears' single "Toxic" into a Motown-flavored orgy of sound. But guts only goes so far, and this cover only dims down the salacious sense of guilty pleasure the original so perversely demonstrated.

The simplest fact is that this is a completely unecessary remix. "Toxic" wa never meant to survive the test of time, especially now that Britney has embraced her role as America's trailer-trash gift to the world. A shaved head and a lap-driving baby won't do any good to remind the world of the giddy, guilty pleasure that Miss Spears so defined. And this slow, lazy, ultimately unsatisfying cover isn't going to help either.
