Just Jack - Writer's Block

The fourth track to be lifted from sophomore album 'Overtones' sees disco pioneer Just Jack repeating himself and as the title would suggest, suffering a severe bout of not-knowing-what-to-write-itus.

Lyrically, the song is atrocious, rehashing couplets such as “I get this writer's block/It comes as quite a shock/And now I'm stuck between a hard place and the biggest rock” and “I'm lovin' Mary Jane/Flying with Lois Lane/On board a bullet train”. If this is Jack being ironic, I have completely missed the point of the song and I give congratulations to him for being incredibly clever. However, I must dutifully admit I doubt that this is the case.

Musically, the quick flicking bass line and slow dragging drumbeat are nothing revolutionary and are the sort of thing that Jamiroquai have made look ordinary. The song has a monotonous limp to it, which is only heightened by the overly nonchalant to-the-point-of-not-caring vocal and lack of instrumental energy, which makes it unlikely to be played at any discos in the near future.
