The Maccabees - Toothpaste Kisses

Rating: 4/5

A stripped-down acoustic song is the latest offering from The Maccabees' highly praised debut album 'Colour It In'. It is an odd choice for a single, but a sensible one, as it may well be just the thing to move The Maccabees out of the "generic indie" bracket. Unveiling their tender side to radio play is an ambitious decision by the band, and could easily make people pay more attention to their talents.

The single coincides with a tour this month, and has the potential to be a stand out intimate moment in their typically bouncy live shows. It opens with a simple, gentle acoustic riff, and lyrically begins as it means to go on, with the touching words of a good love song: "Cradle me, I'll cradle you/ I'll win your heart, with a whoop-a-woo".

Toothpaste Kisses, is an impressive choice of single, given it's slow nature and is a sweet cool love song, which will encourage many to give the album a go.
