The Whitest Boy Alive - Burning

Rating: 5/5

Scandinavian musicians have a knack for creating gorgeous, enchanting, simple songs with an elegance and downright coolness, songs which strike deep to the core of those who no longer understand what a perfectly formed, intelligently conceived song sounds like. “Burning” continues that fine tradition, at once fun and danceable, sad and melancholic. I feel obliged to say bluntly that it is near perfection and deserves every star at the bottom of this page.

You might be familiar with lead singer Erlend Øye, either as the electronic dynamo or as one half of wonderful acoustic duo Kings of Convenience. His vocals are distinctive, intimate and warm, tinged by that cute Norwegian accent as he sings, “Never had time to have my mind made up/ Caught in a motion that I don't wanna stop”, leading music that swells and shimmies from a comfortable cubby-hole directly between minimalist pop and club techno.

Normally I would say more - maybe blab on about telling your friends before they tell you, or get my thesaurus out and start weaving some descriptive genius - but I fear it may distract you from listening below. And that'd be an awful shame.
