Kylie - 2 Hearts

It would be churlish of me not to point out the grand accomplishment this woman has undertaken. So as you can understand, “2 Hearts” not only marks the celebration of her victory over breast cancer, but it is also her fortieth single here in the UK, which is taken from her tenth studio album, and it will be released during her twentieth year in the music business. Three cheers? Let's here 'em.

So, is it any good? Well, the jury's still out. Putting it into context, this is the reigning monarch of manufactured chart topping, and as the ultimate pop-diva, this is bound to rake it in like leaves on an October morn. But is this as contrived as her past work? Actually, no it's not. Written and produced by London based electro group Kish Mauve, “2 Hearts” has a 70s glam rock feel rhythmically - heightened by the flamboyant promo video - flavoured with a modern touch that is quite reminiscent of the absolute gods of androgynous pop culture, the Scissor Sisters. One belting chorus and a svelte performance from the candy-floss pop sovereign later, and we have what looks like another number one on our hands. Spectacularly ordinary, yet not quite as toe curling as some of her more questionable work. I've always wondered what it was like to straddle the Kylie fence. Guess I'm still wondering.
