Zoey Van Goey - Foxtrot Vandals

'Foxtrot Vandals', Zoey Van Goey's first single with Say Dirty Records, is hardly a “we're here, pay us attention” in-your-face introductory effort. Rather, with its light twee guitars and sublime boy-girl melody, the song is a quiet and subdued little number. Reminiscent of Postal Blue, the song develops from its calm beginnings into an uplifting folksy pop, complete with deliberately dated keys.

B-side 'Song To The Ember' is possibly better still. Out goes the twee-indie; in comes the mixed electronics, with Kim Moore's enchanting vocals morphing the song into a Bjork type lament. With its repeated bleeps and constant loops, it shows off not only ZVG's technical talents but also their multi-instrumentation. Two songs in and this cross-continental trio are well worth investigating.
