Plain White T's - Hate (I Really Don't Like You)

It seems that the Plain White T's are a band that the kids, or at least the 'normal' regular, mainstream kids, are *ahem* digging right now. 'Hey There Delilah' sold a squillion copies and stuck around longer than the socially retarded one night stand that comes with insobriety. In relation to 'Hey There Delilah' latest effort 'Hate (I Really Don't Like You)' is the equivalent of the result of your chemical indulgence;loathsome.

Now, I do understand that having a pop shot at hugely popular artists is both easy and clichéd but I am not going to soil any credentials I may or may not have gathered throughout my 21 years by attempting to defend this putrid wank fest. When children listened to Blink 182 and Greenday I saw no harm, yes songs rammed full of profanity and cock jokes are far from era defining but it's a learning curve. What worries me is that some of these youngster have began to produce their own music, such as the chaps in Plain White T's, granted this isn't a Blink-Greenday shunt and bump. Oh god no. It's more in the vain of FallOut Boy, minus any real pop sensibilities. It's like a little disc of cancer just waiting to infect and kill your musical taste buds.

Lyrically it's the same jaded lyrics about being rejected by a 'dreamgirl' and the fall out of aforementioned perfect relationship. The chorus of 'Hate is a stong word/but I really don't like you' I mean, I don't think of myself as a budding Hunter S. Thompson but I still expect I could deal with the subject matter a little more articulately. In fact, the feeling you could do it better yourself is almost served as a side order with this record. The only thing left to say is that yes, I'm off to have a shot myself. Who knows, this time next year we could be millionaires…
