The Beta Band never really managed to live up to expectations. Following the outstanding 3 EP's, their studio albums promised so much yet delivered so little. Occasionally outstanding songs would shine through (It's All Too Beautiful, Space Beatle) but when they split up in the wake of Heroes To Zeroes all they left behind were a catalogue of missed opportunities.

Rising from the ashes are main Beta man Steve Mason's latest project, King Biscuit Time. Picking up where the 3 EP's left off, Kwangchow is a blurred vision of lo-fi, glitchy psychedelia with a deep fried funk edge. The Doctors Of Love remix strips it all back to piano, bongos and shakers for an acid fuelled Screamadelica-style stomp.

Kwangchow should be a great taster of what we can expect from the forthcoming Black Gold LP. Perhaps Mr Mason is finally ready to show us what he is capable of.
