The Twang - Push The Ghosts

It's been just under 3 months since The Twang released their last single, the runaway Radio 1 hit 'Two Lovers'. New single 'Push the Ghosts' employs much of the same endearing, infectiously catchy, albeit repetitive, sound without the easily-memorable lyrics and uplifting theme of its predecessors.

Push The Ghosts is a likeable, distinctively “Twang” track lacking ever so slightly in the sharp, emotional vocals that have become a fundamental ingredient of The Twang's successful singles. The lyrics are fairly standard, with exciting tempo changes and a strangely, distant sing-a-long chant throughout. Phil Etheridge stands out, as he does in many tracks from 'Love it When I Feel Like This', as an extremely interesting front man with voice as distinct as that of Alex Turner or Liam Gallagher.

The instrumentation in The Twang's newest release however is not so interesting. A rather sub-standard bass-line not too dissimilar to many Reverend and the Makers' songs plays throughout and a frankly annoying guitar scratch is added in needlessly at any given moment. The vocals and lyrics are spot-on and live this track is as wonderfully involving as Either Way and Wide Awake but unfortunately the overly repetitive instrumentals hold the track back. Released with the band's fantastic version of Bran Van 3000's Drinking in LA, the single promises to be another chart hit for the talented Brummie band.
