The Manhattan Love Suicides - Keep It Coming

Matt Harrold 18/12/2007

Rating: 4/5

Contrary to their name The Manhattan Love Suicides don't herald from NY but the rather less glamorous town of Leeds, specialising in the kind of fuzz pop that would have the Reid brothers reminiscing back to classic 'Just Like Honey' era Jesus and Mary Chain. Surprisingly for a band that draw on the sort of feed back that would leave most My Bloody Valentine fans suffering multiple orgasms, credence is given to singer Caroline's vocals, and it's not hard to see why. Drawing heavily on the pop records that were floating around in the 1960s her vocals are warm and soft, the sound of the first day of Spring after those long, bleak summer (summer? Ed.) months running through the urban streets, and though her singing may not draw your attention away from the obviousness of their influences, it will certainly make you forgive them with its breathless charm.
