The Metros - Education Pt. 2

Edmund Townend 03/03/2008

Rating: 4/5

You can pretty much sum up The Metros' indie punk feel with their choral “Woah-oh!” throughout the song. Education Pt. 2 seems obviously, about school life and afterlife and the calamity ensuing. You can almost imagine the band totter around a stage as they grin their way stupid through the song. Nevertheless, its actually quite fun.

Their attitude seems stemmed from both Johnny Rotten and Pete Doherty, drawing on the latter for quite intelligent and poetic lyrics from a band following the punk-indie stem. You could even go as far as referring to them as Madness without brass, but then that would be unoriginal… which The Metros certainly are not. They incorporate a lot of the new decade stylings and ideas over their influences which make you wonder if their songs will have any significance in the next ten or twenty years, but its important to focus on a small band's here and now.

Their sound certainly rings in a familiar idea of ska, but still remains rooted in the indie scene as a lot of music does. The questioning lyrics however are on a different level, even if it is dotted with obscenities, so be it with such advancement. Maybe when subjects of songs change will we learn the true value of The Metros eyebrow-raising new sound.
