Supergrass - Diamond Hoo Ha Man

Paul Cook 06/03/2008

Rating: 4/5

Diamond Hoo Ha Man is a stunning reinvigoration for Oxford-formed Supergrass. With a thumping White Stripes-style dirty, electric riff and stabby rhythmic accompaniment, this track is hopefully a sign of fantastic things to come. As the first track from the band's sixth studio album, heavy and energised is exactly what was needed for such a searing return to form.

Gaz Coombes voice is better than ever before with a passionate range of highs and lows complimenting the song entirely. The lyrics for the song are telling of a band that are looking for an explosive return to the music scene, almost as if to tell these other 'indie-amateurs' how to really make music. That is not to say the track is the greatest track around at the moment. It is overly repetitive and the instrumentals remain restricted to a few varying riffs and guitar lines. Nevertheless, with the band embarking on a nationwide tour early this year, Diamond Hoo Ha Man will be absolutely encapsulating live and is possibly one of the band's purest rock songs to date. It will undoubtedly leave anyone thrilled and excited in anticipation of the album Diamond Hoo Ha, due for release later next month.
