The Briganties - The Girl Heaven Sold to the World

It's hard to explain quite why I hated this so much. The initial omens aren't good, with the low-rent Smiths title and Victorian imagery on the cover. And things don't improve with the actual song; the lyrics are banal and plodding and the melody drivels on with no conclusion or change in pace. It's trying to be one of those blokey power ballad-type affairs, but it's not helped by the fact that the singer can't actually sing.

The thing which annoys me the most, however, is the utter cynicism of its Coldplay-meets-Kooks pitch. This cynicism is aptly illustrated by the fact that they've even done a radio edit (frankly, I didn't bother with the full-length version, which would have meant listening to this drivel for another two minutes of my life). Of course, it will no doubt go on to be huge.
