Panic! At The Disco - Nine In The Afternoon

Panic! At The Disco have returned, and without the exclamation mark. 'Nine In The Afternoon' does away with the emo connotations Panic! have been associated with in the past. The dry humour and complex lyrics from 'A Fever You Can't Sweat Out' seem to have disappeared, but the heavily productive element so familiar from Fall Out Boy and most of the Fueled By Ramen entourage.

After the great success of 'A Fever…” the band found it hard to form songs together, occasionally playing new material at shows and then it disappeared.

The Panic! boys drawing heavily on a Queen influence, but adding in far too many instruments to deconstruct in one sitting. The lyrics have dropped in stature since their last album outing becoming increasingly, irritatingly repetitive. The overlaying harmonies and riddling guitar riffs show influence from Queen, but the violins act as a barrier, while the depth of instruments throw away all simplicity. The band are embracing a 'classic-rock inspired aesthetic while still maintaining visionary pop modernism', and in practice they've succeeded, it just doesn't seem to work as well as their debut.

'Pretty Odd.', their sophomore album, will be released on March 24th, and this being their debut single is out now.
