Hold Fire - Power Cuts
Matt Harrold 27/10/2008
Rating: 3/5
Brighton Four Piece Hold Fire are an explosion of energy and teenage kinetics, reminiscent of early Feeder coupled with Ash's bubble gum pop. They've got the hooks on 'Power Cuts' but lack the ability to lodge themselves in the subconscious. It's a case of having found a direction, but not their own sound. This Indie by numbers feel isn't exactly shed off with B'side 'You'll Never know', a power ballad that could be filed under 'instantly forgettable'. There's still enough there though, to suggest that given a few years to mature their sound, Hold Fire could become so much more then the sum of their parts.
