The Dodos - Red and Purple
Alex Skinner 20/11/2008
Rating: 3.5/5
Conjuring up an essence of phantasmagoria, The Dodos have produced a single of such quality and enough grace to make anyone who listens go lethargic at the knees.
The exciting indie pop/psych rocking two-piece (Meric Long and Logan Kroeber) from San Francisco show that they can earn their keep.
Here is the easy breezy formula they seem to work with:
Step 1: Work with a swooning calmed vocal set up that works a treat.
Step 2: Add wondering dreamy repetition of strummed acoustic guitars and claps/ percussions beats (a-plenty) as if on a rhythmical train journey to Neverland.
Step 3: Put it all together and it is a joy to behold.
The single will subliminally ask you to play it again, daring you with its beauty.
In turn, you should check out The Dodos for more of the same chilled vibes. Otherwise, you will remain uptight and complain about mediocre things like an un-ironed shirt or having an untidy kitchen to come home to.
