The Great Shakes - Chinatown
Joe Clark 04/12/2008
Rating: 1.5/5
This three piece from East Anglia are all about the sound of the 60s. Mid 60s to be precise and they don't nail it, in any way.
Lead track 'Chinatown' starts off with a tasty organ, adding tight harmonies and a whistlable tune - so far so Merseybeats - but unfortunately uses the lyrics from High School Musical. 'Down in Chinatown we found each other' indeed.
After another couple of tracks serve up similarly competent but clichéd fayre, your left wondering whatever happened to Cast? At least John Power had a stupid voice. A Scouting for girls support slot beckons.
