Fight Like Apes - Tie Me Up With Jackets
Neil Watts 13/01/2009
Rating: 3.5/5
Fight Like Apes are the definition of oddball. Their songs are littered with toilet humour, profanities and subject matters that would make the average Daily Mail reader's blood boil. Excellent! Tie Me Up With Jackets is no exception; it's quick witted coupled with an in-your-face attitude. Along with b-sides Telephone The Real Ham Jackson and Canhead there are certainly a few tea-spurting-out-of-the-mouth/nose moments triggered by their risqué slant on song writing. Singer May Kay even sounds a little like Cyndi Lauper mixed with Chrissie Hynde. Fittingly it comes packaged in an obnoxious shade of pink to complete the assault on your senses.
Crude and potty mouthed; these three tracks are the antithesis of the carefully thought out manufactured pop that we are all too readily force fed on a nightly basis, no thanks to one questionable “talent” show or another. So, if your New Year's resolution was to take yourself less seriously, then you could do far worse than to listen to Fight Like Apes once in a while.
