There comes a point in all aging musicians' lives when they should hand in their notice and shuffle off to the retirement home with their dignity intact. Love etc surely is an indication that this point is drawing near for Pet Shop Boys. This latest single isn't so much bad, more that it feels like PSB are trying too hard to keep up with the young'uns but falling a bit further behind with every step.

Swathed in superslick shiny production, Love etc is an overthought attempt at modernity that lacks that je ne sais quois PSB had so much of back in the day. Repetitive and bland, it'll leave you reaching for the back catalogue and sighing into the record sleeves.
