Bloc Party - Signs (Armand Van Helden remix)

Hot off the back of a sell-out two night stay at the 12,500 capacity London Olympia, Bloc Party release Signs but not as you might know it. In the run up to the band's second remix album, Intimacy Remixed due for release on 11th May, Kele and co. are releasing this Armand Van Helden remix of the track.

Doing away with the xylophone intro and delicate layering of vocals and instrumentals and wedging in a thick, house bassline hasn't done this track any favours. The redeeming features are those original elements that make Signs a refreshing shift away from the breakneck speed of drums and jagged guitars we associate with Bloc Party. Kele's vocals luckily suit the dance styled reworking of the track but it is far from inventive or experimental in its production. A disappointing release from a hotly anticipated remix album.
