Sad Day For Puppets - Marble Gods

I'm beginning to think that the Swedish government has a secret factory hidden somewhere in Stockholm dedicated to the production of bloody great indie acts TM. Surely this can be the only explanation for the existence of The Radio Dept. Pelle Carlberg, The Concretes, Jens Lekman, Sambassadeur, The Legends, Acid House Kings and now Sad Day For Puppets. “Marble Gods” is the opening salvo from the Blackeberg quintet and is a perfect re-imagining of a fantasy duel between Teenage Fanclub circa “Bandwagonesque” and Dinosaur Jr. circa “Where You Been” with Mikki from Lush providing the audio commentary. It goes without saying that this is one of (if not) the best debut single I've heard all year and the coda - it'll make your spine tingle. “Big Waves” - the other half of this double 'A' side is also sublime and deftly executed. … Puppets take the Spector-esque fuzz of The Raveonettes as an inspirational starting point and sprinkle magical background vocal harmonies on top to seal the deal.
