Outraze - Under the Influence
Owain Paciuszko 28/05/2009
Rating: 3/5
The first thing I would say to Outraze is that they should seriously consider getting a different name. The second thing I would say is that they have a pretty decent indie-rock sound that pays homage to early The Charlatans and such mid-90s stalwarts as Cast and Ocean Colour Scene. It's just a shame that they're called Outraze.
This Banbury-based 5-piece have a Northern sound to their music that manages to feel natural, rather than a bunch of Southerners trying to sound, er, Northy. It's a fine, straight-forward rocker with big drums, big guitars and lyrics that you can shout and punch-the-air to at afternoon festival sets. Though, at the same time, as just a track it's too slight to really deliver a clear of idea of what this band is and how they can fare out there in 'the big wide world', but it's a pretty good single nonetheless.
