Wolfmother - Mind's Eye

Jennifer Roberts 09/01/2006

Rating: 3/5

A lone release from Wolfmother on the Modular Records imprint; home to fellow antipodeans Cut Copy and Van She. They are Andrew Stockdale (vocals), Myles Heskett (dums) and Chris Ross (bass, keys) and their sound is truly rock. and. roll. Raw, powerful, and mesmerising, it harks to days gone by where proper bands, with proper hair (none of this slicked-down, Vidal Sassoon- hacked-with-shears nonsense) made good quality music.

Mind's Eye is a psychedelic quarrel with a tripped out Cedric Bixler; spewing colours, shapes and all things Pink Floyd (The Wall years). A clash of 70's glittering synths, warbled harmonies and visions of star spangled 80's glam rock, captivates and bewilders in this surreal mind-trip of melodies.
It has an expansive sound for something that starts off as the tinklings of experimental Radiohead, rapidly growing to epic proportions with the climactic chorus 'Come and see the mind's eye/We can find it if we try/Come and see the mind's eye/Transfixed upon the why'.

And with both versions (with a difference of one minute) this is a 2 for 1 you can't resist. Cashback. Currently enrolled on the NME Brats tour kicking off on the 24th before the onslaught of further UK dates ensues, make sure you catch them before they're gone.
