Amazing Baby - Head Dress
Richard Wink 10/07/2009
Rating: 4.5/5
'Head Dress' opens like a McAlmont and Butler song, the sneering self confident vocals recall the cocaine period of Britpop, hedonistic and dry, the faint echo of haughty posh laughs and the clink of champagne glasses. And this comes from a band hailing from Brooklyn, astonishing.
Amazing Baby appears to be Anglophiles, revelling in the excess of real rock and roll stars, picking Bowie and Rod Stewart over Ted Nugent and Gene Simmons. The guitars veer a little too close to Glam Rock, but the chorus forces superlatives from your think box.
It's in your face, obnoxiously so, yet not once does 'Head Dress' sound overbearing. This single is dripping with the kind of swag juice Americans are known to leak from their slightly flabby armpits. Faintly ridiculous, unashamedly glorious I think 'Head Dress' is creeping into the top ten singles that I have had the pleasure to hear this year.
