Captain Dangerous - I Miss You 'Cos it's Monday

When I first got this CD in the post to review it took me a few seconds to realize it wasn't a new single from Damned front man Captain Sensible. The sense of relief I felt on realising it had nothing to do with him was massive, because whatever anyone says Happy Talk is not a fun, enjoyable song. Instead Captain Dangerous are a Nottingham band whose off-kilter indie-pop has been causing a minor stir, they count 6Music's Mark Riley as a fan.
Thankfully the ex-Fall bassist, and man formally known as Lard, seems to be a better judge of talent than fellow 6Music host Tom Robinson. Everything I've received to review with Mr Robinson's seal of approval on the press releases has been a total let down. Here, though, I can understand the fuss surrounding this band. Captain Dangerous make catchy, melodic, indie pop, with more than a hint of folk running through its veins.
