The Silent Years - Taking Drugs At The Amusement Park
Nick Lewis 08/10/2009
Rating: 3/5
This has everything: lilting vocals, drifting Doves-esque electric guitar parts, fast, pounding drums (particularly the fills in the chorus), digitally manipulated stuttering guitars, and a Chelsea Dagger chanting 'da, da da da' chorus. And it's all done thrillingly fast.
In fact, it would be fair to say that it perfectly captures the feeling of being on way too many uppers at an amusement park: staring at constantly shifting flashing lights and feeling simultaneously fantastic and a bit woozy. I would imagine.
Unfortunately that's the feeling this song leaves you with. It's a great sugar rush of ideas and enthusiasm, but it can be a little overwhelming and it does leave you exhausted and slightly agitated. Possibly too much of a good thing. It is, however, a good thing nonetheless.
