Malachai - Snowflake

Described as “a stand-alone…sensation” by Mojo, in the past few months the British press have thrown their adoration at Bristol-based band Malachai, composed of G. Ealey and Scott Hendy, like their livelihood depends upon it. The duo's debut album Ugly Side of Love was released last April, and is proceeded by this, 'Snowflake', a glorious chunk of unsaturated appreciation for musicians past their hay-day.
The track itself is unabashedly addictive and heavily echoes Duels, a stupendous Yorkshire band that never quite caught the wind. For those of you ignorant to their work - imagine David Bowie throwing a punch at Lenny Kravitz, as he innocently plays 'Fly Away' to an audience dominated by salivating punks.
To say Malachai are unoriginal isn't the point: like Duels, The Dandy Warhols and Supergrass before them, the pop music they make doesn't strive for superiority or some undiscovered sound, it strives for taps and turns on the dancefloor, and that's exactly what it achieves. Harmless fun.
