Robyn - Dancing On My Own

It's been three years since Swedish chanteuse Robyn launched her assault on the U.K charts with the summer smash 'With Every Heartbeat' which received enough airplay to last a millennia. So with the electro-pop scene now looking like a tin of packed sardines with the likes of Christina Aguilera, Lady Gaga and Ke$ha all wanting a lucrative piece of the mainstream pop market. Robyn has decided to switch it up abit and inject a new lease of life into the tired album production scheme, by releasing three albums all in the same year. Yeah you heard right, three albums all in one year.

It's the first of the musical trilogy named 'Body Talk' homogenously titled 'Body Talk pt 1' where comeback single 'Dancing On My Own' originates from. Apparently inspired by her love for sad gay disco anthems from the company of Donna Summer and Sylvester. It's quite catchy with the industrial techno beats grating against the programmed drums beats and shimmering synths to great melodic effect.

Unfortunately the same praise cannot be heaped upon the lyrics, correct me if I'm wrong. But didn't Robyn do the whole: 'There is my ex with a new girl oh why he can't come back to me?' with the equally incessantly played 'Be Mine'. So it's the depiction of the same old tired story that stops this track from being one of the rare genius gems we find in mainstream pop nowadays, of course discounting the OTT spectacle that is Lady Gaga.

Whether her ambitious plans to flood the mainstream music charts with three albums will conclude in the 'cheapening' of her music due to saturation or massive commercial success, still remains to be seen.
