Wilder - Girls vs Boys

Supporting Strokes man Julian Casablancas on his UK solo tour a good while before you've released your debut single is a pretty big hint you're onto a winner and Rough Trade's new signing Wilder, named after “40s film noir legend Billy Wilder and a weird bot from the original 80s Transformers cartoon”, most certainly are.

Aside from their past touring accolades, the Bristolians can also boast about the thing that's really important here - the music. 'Girls vs Boys' might unite the angular guitars of Silent Alarm-era Bloc Party and the carnivalistic rhythms of Friendly Fires to frame three and a half minutes of sparkling synth-pop but this ain't your typical throwaway indie disco floor filler. Yes, it's likely to become an anthemic staple at club nights across the country but there's something more to it that makes it that cut above the rest. It's hard to put your finger on just what that something is but boy, it sure is good.

On the evidence of this single, Wilder should be watched with baited breath. Not only is this one of the most exciting songs we've heard all month but there's an obvious bounty of potential just waiting to be realised.
