The Kooks - She Moves In Her Own Way

Summers are all about escaping to the beach, 99s, festivals, religiously watching Big Brother, and songs like this. “She Moves In Her Own Way” is a classic example of the kind of tune you'd turn up with your windows down in your car, or sing along to in the shower. However, this doesn't necessarily make it a good song. In fact, with all of this aside, the fifth release from The Kooks debut smash “Inside In/Inside Out” sounds inevitably tired and worn, like the band themselves have rather run out of the scampish tricks which originally stole our hearts.

Now I'm a big fan of The Kooks' music, I even count their anthem “Matchbox” as one of my all time Friday-night-on-the-pull songs, keeping company with numerous classics, including the epics “Rock The Casbah” and “Nightfever” to name but two. However, it is surely obvious that the band's new single never really should've been a single at all. It's an “album track” at best, a b-side if I'm being fair.

Yes, the song is laced with the charm and charisma we've come to expect from the band currently leading the indie-pop revolution, but predictable solos and lacklustre lyrics ('you don't pull my strings 'coz I'm a better man moving onto better things') offer nothing new to the listener. I have no doubt that this song will reach the same chart success as it's predecessors, but all of this will be a result of what the band have already achieved with regard to the public. In reality, this is a poor note for the band to wrap up the album with, but hey, it's the summer, what do we care?
